Dickey Clay Manufacturing Co Ashtray Crude Primitive Advertising Piece Vintage
This is an advertising piece for the Dickey Clay Company out of Kansas City which produced underground sewer and drainage pipes and other clay products. The company was established around 1885 in Kansas City, MO. They became the largest producer in the world of burnt clay products.
I read that the workers used to make ashtrays and other figurines. These were made from the same burnt clay as the pipes were.
This ashtray has a very shiny dark reddish brown glaze. It’s in really good shape other than some manufacturing issues with the glaze. The base has a chip and one side has some wearing on the wording. No cracks. (See pictures)
